Membership
Founded in 1918, the IFE is a non profit making professional body with a rapidly growing membership of over 12,000 and a global reach that extends through 39 international branches. Licensed by the Engineering Council, the IFE upholds professional standards within all public and private fire sectors by offering assessment of knowledge, experience and development and engages with major stakeholders to offer international conferences, identify and promote good practice and enhance technical networks worldwide.
The IFE provides professional recognition for members across a broad spectrum and has achieved recognition from a number of professional bodies including Ofqual. Under its Engineering Council licence, the IFE is authorised to register suitably qualified members as Chartered Engineers (CEng), Incorporated Engineers (IEng) and Engineering Technicians (Eng Tech).
News Release: 5 August 2010
Membership and Exam Fees Held at 2009 Rates
The IFE Board has confirmed that there will be no increases in membership subscriptions or examination fees for 2011. This decision has been taken to support members through the present economic difficulties. Therefore during 2011, members and examination candidates will only be charged at 2009 rates.
Fire Risk Management Moves to 10 Editions
Over the past two years, economic downturn has brought about a considerable fall in advertising income needed to support the production of the monthly Fire Risk Management journal. At the same time print and distribution costs have risen. Against this background, Fire Risk Management - produced jointly by the IFE and the FPA - has faced some tough choices.
Driven by the need to maintain editorial quality, and wishing to only attract relevant advertising, the Editorial Board of Fire Risk Management has concluded that, whilst revenue streams remain depressed, combined issues will be produced in July/August and December/January with immediate effect. As a result, there will be no August 2010 edition.
This decision has been taken with great reluctance. The IFE is conscious of the importance of this publication to members. However, we are sure that members will appreciate that the IFE is a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation, so costs must be covered, particularly when subscriptions continue to be held at 2009 rates to try to support members.
It is very much hoped that this development will be short-term and that, at a future time, it will be possible to resume monthly publishing. We would like to thank all members for their understanding and continuing loyalty and support.
