IFE Scotland branch contributes to revised fire safety guidance

The Scotland branch of the IFE has been involved in the re-release of updated fire safety guidance issued by the Scottish government.

Responding to the consultation earlier this year, the branch submitted a set of recommendations to the new proposed Practical Fire Safety Guidance for Existing Non-Residential Premises, which offers fire safety advice in respect of existing non-residential premises. The proposal included consolidating a number of individual Scottish Government guides and introduced a substantial number of editorial changes in the revision aimed at improving dutyholders’ understanding.

As a result of the proposal being approved the five most used guidance documents - Practical Fire Safety Guidance for Educational and Day Care for Children Premises: February 2008; Practical Fire Safety Guidance for Places of Entertainment and Assembly: December 2007; Practical Fire Safety Guidance for Factories and Storage Premises: February 2008; Practical Fire Safety Guidance for Offices, Shops and Similar Premises:February 2008; Practical Fire Safety Guidance for Transport Premises: February 2008 – have been condensed into one document. In Scotland, the stand-alone documents can no longer be quoted.

Further information about the changes and a copy of the new guidance can be found here.
