George had a 40-year career in the Fire and Rescue Service, serving in various brigades and ending his career as the Chief Fire Officer of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

“The book will help to develop knowledge and understanding of fire engineering science, fire operations and fire safety subjects as well as bringing readers up to date in this ever-developing discipline.”

Speaking about the book, George commented: “Whilst the primary purpose of the book is to assist those studying for the IFE’s vocational qualifications for firefighters and crew managers, it will also be of value to those entering job roles in the sector and who are undertaking training programmes such as apprenticeships and induction training.

“The book will help to develop knowledge and understanding of fire engineering science, fire operations and fire safety subjects as well as bringing readers up to date in this ever-developing discipline.”

Stephanie Morris, IFE’s Education Manager, added: “The new version of this book replaces the existing Elementary Fire Engineering Handbook and will form the core content for our Level 2 and Level 3 Certificate examinations from March 2018 onwards. The previous edition of the Handbook can still be used by those taking IFE examinations in October 2017.

“This has been a vital project for the IFE and our examination offering and on behalf of the IFE and the Education Team, I would like to express my sincere thanks to George for his invaluable contribution and considerable hard work. The Elementary Fire Engineering Handbook has been a significant global learning resource for over a decade and this new edition enhances and updates this vital material.”

The new Elementary Fire Engineering Handbook is now available to purchase from the online shop priced at £27.50.
