AGM, Conference & Exhibition - 1st/2nd July 2009
The Institution's AGM, Conference & Exhibition was held this year at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow, overlooking the beautiful River Clyde. The conference & exhibition was a huge success with over 200 delegates in attendance over the 2 days, many delegates travelling from far afield to be in attendance.
Presentations on the theme "Fire & Life Safety Engineering - The Impact on Global Communities" by speakers from around the world were enthusiastically received by all.

The venue provided excellent conferencing and leisure facilities enjoyed by all who attended and the feedback received was very positive for attendance at the 2010 AGM, Conference & Exhibition to be held in London.
The evening's social programme was a very enjoyable networking opportunity.
On the Tuesday evening a Civic Drinks Reception was held at the amazing Glasgow City Chambers hosted by the Lord Provost who welcomed all guests to the gorgeous venue and the beautiful city of Glasgow.
The informal buffet supper on Wednesday evening was a great opportunity to catch up with delegates and exhibitors. The evening commenced with a very interesting whisky tasty session by Allan Scott and was rounded off with music & dancing from the Ceilidh Band.
To round the week's events off the International President's dinner hosted by Mr. William Stewart newly inaugurated to the post of International President was held on the Thursday evening in the Argyll Suite. All attendees were honoured with the magnificent performance of the Strathclyde Fire & Rescue Service Pipe Band before commencement of the dinner very kindly sponsored by Sperian Fire & Protection. The dinner was rounded off by entertainment from the Scottish Folk Duo Gaberlunzie who despite being disconnected from their microphones half way through their session were a huge and very enjoyable success.

Result of the 2009 Ballot for the Board of Directors
Six excellent nominations for the Board of Directors were received for two vacancies. The results were announced at the AGM on the 1st July 2009. Consequently we would like to welcome Mr. Roy Bishop to the Board of Directors and welcome back Mr. HG Tay.
Thank you to all six nominees for their commitment to the Institution and to all those that took the time to vote in the ballot.
Leader & Vice Leader of the General Assembly Announced
We are delighted to announce that Mr. Neil Gibbins has been elected leader and Mr. Tony Lawson has been elected Vice Leader of the General Assembly. Many thanks to all nominees.
