Bill Peterson to take up FEMA appointment.
The Institution's Immediate Past President Mr Bill Peterson has accepted a White House Presidential appointment as the Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region VI for the states of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Bill takes up the prestigious position on Monday 30 January 2006 on his retirement as CFO, Emergency Management Coordinator and Director of Homeland Security in the City of Plano, Texas. In a Press Release issued by the City of Plano, Bill is credited with developing a progressive fire service organization delivering a wide range of fire protection and emergency medical services to the community, since his commencement in 1982. During 2005, Bill led Plano's emergency support response to the two major Hurricanes, Katrina and Rita, and was instrumental in uniting the community effort. Throughout that very demanding period, Bill maintained an active role in the Institution's affairs and co-ordinated the Board's work on the development of strategic goals. Bill has confirmed that he will continue in his role as Immediate Past President and Board Director up until the AGM in July 2006 but will not stand for re-election. As International President (2004-05), Bill brought great credit to the Institution and has played a key role in forging a number of strategic alliances.
I am sure all members will join with me in sending Bill our sincere congratulations and very best wishes in his new role.
