Approved Courses with Academic Exemption
Changing
Status of former IFE
Accredited Courses
From April 1st 2009 the Institution can no longer accredit courses as being the equivalent of IFE examinations. This is because the Institution may not equate the courses of other providers with examinations which are themselves nationally recognised qualifications. The IFE, which has received awarding body recognition from the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator, must adhere fully to the requirements of Ofqual in such matters.
However,
the IFE can
continue to recognise the value of course providers' training facilities by
validating them as approved courses. In addition to this, where providers once
offered accreditation to IFE examinations,
appropriate courses may now offer exemption from otherwise demonstrating the
academic requirement for IFE membership. This would mean, for example,
that where a course was previously accredited to the IFE Intermediate
Examination, it would continue to satisfy the academic requirement for the
Technician (TIFireE) grade of membership, the difference being that now it
would be badged as an academic exemption and not as an examination equivalent.
In this way providers' courses can continue to offer added value from their
association with the IFE while the Institution maintains the strict
separation of its functions as an awarding body on the one hand and a membership
organisation on the other.
