Fire Service Research and Training Trust

Scolarships, Educational Grants & Research Grants
The Fire Service Research and Training Trust (FSRTT) in conjunction with the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) has for many years made funds available to UK citizens to support people associated with the Fire Service, Fire Engineering, Emergency Planning and Risk Control.
The funds that are provided support either individual's personal development or provide support for essential research to take place. In order to qualify for funding, the personal development or research must support the further development of knowledge in the fields of fire, fire engineering, emergency planning, risk management, community safety, environmental protection or management. Funds are made available in the form of:-
- Grants (Educational)
- Scholarships
- Grants (Research)
For educational grants, applications can be made for assistance with tuition fees, books or research associated with a project, degree or general course work. Support can be provided for one year of a course or will also be considered over the whole term of the course.
Courses that meet the criteria outlined above will be considered for support. Scholarships will be made available to allow people to research appropriate topics either within the UK or world wide.
The aim of the scholarship is through a major piece of work to provide people the opportunity to demonstrate their theoretical and practical knowledge of the areas above and to develop a deeper understanding of the relevant principles and promote wider debate on the conclusions and findings.
Research grants will be made available through appropriate channels and in conjunction with fire and rescue services and higher education establishments.
The aim is to support appropriate research by identifying areas of need, within the areas above, and then identifying a suitable research path to undertake the work.
Any work that is produced following the award of a grant or scholarship must be made available for wider use or publication. The most important benefit of the work is the wider use of the findings and outcomes to support the ongoing professional development of the fire service, fire engineering and fire related industries.
