IFE Level 3 Certificate (former Intermediate) Examination
The IFE Level 3 Certificate (Intermediate) examination consists of 2 papers.
The time allowed for each paper is 2 hours.
Paper 1 is a multiple-choice paper and candidates indicate their chosen responses by marking the answer sheet with a pencil. Candidates achieving 60% or above will pass this examination paper.
Paper 2 requires candidates to provide short, written responses to 20 questions. Candidates achieving 40% or above will pass this examination paper.
When candidates have passed both papers they will receive the following qualification, which comprises the Ofqual accredited units listed below:-
IFE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Science, Operations, Safety & Management 500/5922/1.
- Fire Engineering Science (R/502/3107)
- Fire Operations (D/502/3109
- Fire Safety (Y/502/3108)
- Management and Administration in Fire and Rescue Services (R/502/3110)

(N.B. For membership purposes, candidates are not required to pass both papers in the same year, but must be successful within two consecutive examination years in order to meet the academic requirement for the Technician grade of membership - TIFireE.)
