Andrew Brown G.I.FireE joined the Young Firefighters Association in the West Midlands in 1997 and; whilst rising through the ranks to Officer in Charge of Branch; completed the Preliminary Certificate examination in 2000 whilst working as a service technician for a private fire engineering firm in the West Midlands. In September, 2000, he joined the West Midlands Fire Service and progressed through the examinations gaining T.I.FireE status with the Institution in 2001 after completing the Intermediate examination. During 2002 to 2005 he completed one paper of the Graduate Examination per year and attained GIFireE status in 2005. In 2006 he completed all four papers of the Membership Examinations and gained the UK Candidate Godiva Award for best U.K. Candidate in the process. He has been vice president of the Midlands Branch of the Institution of Fire Engineers since 2004 and has been responsible for the development of the Young Professionals' Network within the Institution to provide support for newer and younger members through guidance, advice and mentoring. He has delivered presentations to numerous IFE events worldwide including Annual General Meetings and Branch meetings. He is currently a competent Crew Commander at Walsall Fire Station in West Midlands Fire Service, educated to A-Level standard and undertaking higher education distance learning courses. His other interests include photography, history and helping others in fire engineering achieve their full potential. |

I am a full time serving member of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service of 14 years service. I have undertaken both an Operational role of 8 years (remaining on the Retained Duty System) and specialist role for 6 years, predominantly within Fire Safety Regulation, currently in the position of Station Officer Fire Safety Delivery (Inspecting Officer). I have completed each of the fire safety modules at the Fire Service College in the recent three years and maintain professional development through CPD events and relevant fire professional journals.
