Synopsis
Brief Synopsis
A recruit firefighter (Ff) died on the 9th June 1955 due to injuries incurred whilst on ladder drills on the 8th June 1955. The firefighter was on a recruit course performing a ‘carry down’ drill (House & Settle, 2016).
According to Unknown author, 1955, the Ff fell 20 ft from an escape ladder with another trainee while practising the drill. ‘He had previously carried the exercise out three times without a hitch and was two-thirds down the ladder when he appeared to overbalance, letting go of his right-hand grip and being pulled outwards by the weight of his “victim”, another trainee’ (Unknown author, 1955).
