Synopsis

Brief Synopsis

A firefighter (Ff) died on the 15th August 1968 as a result of the injuries sustained following an explosion at a café on the 7th August 1968 (House & Settle, 2016 and Unknown Author, 1968).

It is currently understood that during damping down operations at the incident, a firefighter who was wearing breathing apparatus (BA) at the time was caught by an explosion of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), Butane (C4H10), cylinder that had been apparently leaking. The force of the blast also injured other firefighters, knocking 2 down a flight of stairs (Mullins, unknown date).
