Synopsis

Brief synopsis

On the 28th April 1972 a retained (RDS) Sub Officer (SubO) suffered an illness on duty whilst ‘cutting away’ following an incident. On the 14th May 1972 he succumbed to this illness and died. (House & Settle et al, 2017).

It is not currently known what the cause of the stated illness was e.g. if this was a heart attack or other cause of illness and subsequent death.

It is currently understood that the fire involved a range of single storey premises including a general store, butchers, newsagents shop and post office (Pearce & Masters, circa. 1998).
