Synopsis

Brief synopsis

On the 27th November 1974 a firefighter (Ff) died due to injuries sustained whilst participating in fire service training. A turntable ladder (TL) collapsed while the Ff was on the extended ladder (House & Settle et al, 2017).

During the inquest that recorded a verdict of accidental death, it was heard that a ‘freakish’ winds were blowing at the time of the accident and that this could have caught the extended TL and caused the collapse. It was also heard that the ladder had been observed to have been ‘slightly bent’ during the drill (Unknown author, 1975).
