IFE Announces new Board Director and Trustee

Chris Lowther - Board BandW

IFE Chair Grant Lupton AFSM B.GS CPMgr FAIM CFIFireE announced today that the Board has co-opted Chris Lowther, CFO Tyne and Wear FRS (UK), as a Director and Trustee of the Institution.

Chris started his career as an operational firefighter based at Gateshead Community Fire Station in 1997. After joining the Strategic Management Team in 2009, he worked as an Area Manager before being appointed, in 2013, Assistant Chief Officer, assuming overall responsibility for services across five districts, operations, community safety and fire safety. With a varied background encompassing training, community safety and operations, Chris has taken a lead role in a number of national resilience programmes. He took up his CFO appointment in April 2017.

Chris sits on the Operations Co-ordination Committee, the lead body for Urban Search and Rescue and he was the project executive for the national guidance work on transport.

Grant welcomed Chris to the Board: “The relationship between the IFE and FRSs internationally has been strong since our foundation early in the 20th century, but the need for inter-organisation co-operation within the fire sector has never been more important than it is today.

“Not only will Chris bring up-to-the-minute knowledge and understanding of FRS operations to the Board, his strong links with the National Fire Chiefs Council will give the IFE added confidence that we are working as one to achieve the same goals.”

Chris said: "When I was asked to be co-opted onto the IFE’s Board of Trustees I was delighted to say yes. The IFE really is the flagship of standards when it comes to all things Fire Engineering and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to keep moving such a historic and prestigious institution forward, bringing my own experience and knowledge to the table.”

Congrats to Chris on him appointment. This is an international fire service organization and not everyone knows Tyne and Ware FRS is a UK based department. Your press release should so state.
