IFE members have varying levels of knowledge, understanding and experience, which are reflected by their membership grade.

The directory includes details of each members grade and area of expertise.

All members in this directory have been assessed by peers to meet the detailed requirements for their grade and have made a commitment to Continuous Professional Development and ethical conduct.

The IFE registers individuals on behalf of the Engineering Council, the UK regulatory body for the profession.

These members have met globally recognised standards. Their competence has been assessed and verified and they have made a commitment to Continuous Professional Development and ethical conduct. Interim Registrants have met the academic requirements for professional registration and are working towards assessment and verification to become fully registered.

The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) operates a professional register of Fire Risk Assessors for individuals based in the UK. This register provides public assurance that those listed have demonstrated a high level of competence in fire risk assessment through a robust, independent assessment process.

Applicants are required to evidence their education, training and experience in fire safety and fire risk assessment. This includes submitting examples of their work for detailed evaluation by an IFE Professional Review Panel. Only those who meet the required standard are admitted to the register.

The recently published British Standard, BS 8674:2025, introduces a tiered framework for fire risk assessor competence, covering Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced levels. The IFE register has always required applicants to demonstrate the depth and breadth of knowledge, experience and professional judgement associated with the Advanced level 3. In doing so, IFE registered Fire Risk Assessors have evidenced competence across the full spectrum of fire risk assessment practice, from simpler premises through to complex and higher-risk environments.

The IFE is a member of the Fire Risk Assessment Competency Council and has played an active role in the development of national competency frameworks, including BS 8674. Our register is aligned with these evolving standards and continues to support the professionalisation of fire risk assessment across the UK.

In addition to joining the register, individuals are required to obtain Engineering Council registration through the IFE if they do not already hold this. This provides further independent recognition of their professional competence and commitment.

Once approved, successful applicants may use the IFE Fire Risk Assessor logo and will be included on the publicly accessible register, giving clients and duty holders confidence that they are engaging a competent and accountable professional.

This directory includes only members and registrants who have opted in to be listed. If someone does not appear in the results, it does not necessarily mean they are not an IFE member.
