free, in-person conference as they explore practical solutions to meeting fire safety legislative requirements in a sympathetic manner to historic buildings. The conference hopes to develop a fire strategy that considers existing conditions, prevention, detection, communication, containment, suppression and disaster recovery all while facing the unique barriers and requirements of historic buildings.

- Fire Safety Legislation and how it affects Historic Buildings - An overview of legislation, and how it affects the built heritage, i.e. the challenges faced in applying 21st century legislation in a sympathetic manner in heritage buildings. This session will ‘set the scene’ for the remainder of the day, where we deliver a programme that looks at practical solutions to the challenges
- Conversion and Refurbishment of historic buildings - The process and considerations when introducing fire safety measures as part of a Conversion or Refurbishment project in historic buildings
- International Perspective - The NFPA Cultural Resources Committee’s role in the NFPA consensus process for code development and the ecosystem
- Developing a fire safety strategy for a historic building - A fire safety strategy is a key component in determining the fire safety arrangements in any building. During this session, the seven stages of developing a fire safety strategy for a historic building will be discussed
- Fire detection & communication - Choosing the most appropriate Automatic Fire Detection and Alarm System for a historic building and developing a communications strategy to ensure actuations are investigated immediately
- Extinction Alert - The nuts and bolts of historic doors - Extinction Alert - The nuts and bolts of historic door
- Fire Suppression Systems - A growing number of cultural sites are recognising the benefits of installing fire suppression systems. This presentation will focus on water mist, with case studies demonstrating the benefits at Notre Dame and historic buildings throughout central London
- Salvage and emergency response planning - Practical guidance on developing Salvage and Emergency Response Plans to enable protection to the building and recovery of artefacts / contents following an emergency
- Insurance matters - managing a claim - A case study following the process that is required to be followed should there be a requirement to make an insurance claim
