Join us in Singapore for this paid in-person event discussing the fire safety challenges of tunnels and vehicle fires. The seminar will discuss tunnel fire scenarios and their impacts while highlighting the difficulties of tunnel fires such as a lack of ventilation and the potential for rapid fire spread.

About the Speaker
Dr. Ricky Carvel
is a Senior Lecturer in Fire Dynamics and an Assistant Director of Learning & Teaching Dept of The School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh. Dr Carvel’s primary research interest in fire dynamics in forced ventilation conditions, particularly as this relates to fires in vehicles and tunnels. He is the co-editor of Handbook of Tunnel Fire Safety, the. Associate Editor of Fire Safety Journal (2010-2015), the authors of 30+ paper in refereed journals and 60+ conference papers. His conference paper “Rediscovering the Throttling Effect” won the Best paper award at the 6th Int’l Symp. On Tunnel Safety and Security, Marseille. He was awarded the “ISTSS Achievement Award 2018” at the 8th In’t Symp. on Tunnel Safety and Security, in Boras, Sweden, March 2018. He has extensive experience in the consultancy of fire tests, fire risk assessment, rail accident investigation and etc.
