Cancellations and Amendments:
Cancellations or amendments must be received in writing 10 working days before the date of the event. Cancellations received after this time or not put in writing will be subject to the full fee, which will also be charged in the event of non-attendance. Substitutions may be made at ay time.

Graduate Lecture 2026

The IFE Early Careers Networking Group is thrilled to announce the Graduate Lecture 2026!

Join us at The University of Edinburgh for this celebration of the research and achievements of fire engineering students from across the country.

Following a keynote speech from Jim Glockling, up to six exceptional students from across the UK's fire engineering degree courses will take the stage to present their cutting-edge research (speakers and topics to be confirmed). The event will conclude with awards recognising the top three presentations, plus three runners-up.

Keynote speaker; Jim Glockling
Dr James (Jim) Glockling is a Principal Fire Protection Engineer within the Naval Engineering Team of BMT, consultant, and is the current Chair of BSI FSH/16 'Hazards to life from fire'. He has a degree in Chemical Engineering and PhD in nuclear engineering. Following post-doctorate study, he worked as a lecturer in Chemical Engineering and Fire Safety Engineering, a forensic fire investigator, and ran research laboratories at the Loss Prevention Council (LPC), Building Research Establishment (BRE), and the Fire Protection Association (FPA) where he ran the UK insurance research scheme, RISCAuthority. Jim’s principal areas of expertise are in suppression and detection technologies and complex risk mitigation scenarios. Jim is also visiting Professor at the University of Central Lancashire and continues to work promoting resilience with the commercial built environment and maritime sectors.
