London branch - Contemporary challenges in human behaviour and evacuation modelling

From our London branch

Join us for this free, online event where speaker Dr Steve Gwynne will explore how human behaviour influences fire safety design, how behavioural models have evolved, and how they are shaping current and future approaches to fire engineering and occupant safety analysis.

Overview

This webinar with Dr Gwynne explores the growing importance of human behaviour in fire safety and its impact on the fire engineering profession. It examines how behavioural models have evolved to better represent occupant response, how they are applied in current fire safety design and risk assessment, and how they continue to inform performance-based engineering approaches.

The session also considers how these developments may shape future practice, improving safety outcomes and professional decision-making in fire engineering.

About the speaker

Dr. Steve Gwynne is currently Professor of Evacuation and Pedestrian Dynamics at the University of Greenwich and Lund University. Steve has 30 years of experience in pedestrian dynamics, human behaviour in fire and evacuation modelling.

He has worked in government roles (e.g. National Research Council Canada and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, US), other academic roles (Memorial University (Canada), King's College, London (UK), Univ. Maryland(US), Univ. Waterloo (Canada)) and in consultancy (e.g. Movement Strategies, UK; Hughes Associates, US).

He has 100+ peer-reviewed publications and co-authors several chapters in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) Handbook and was a co-author of the SFPE Guides to Human Behaviour in Fire (2nd Edition) and Very Tall Buildings (2nd Edition).
