Associate Director – Fire Engineering - CHPK

CHPK Fire Engineering | London or any UK office | £80,000 – £100,000 + bonus & benefits

Shape the safety of London's skyline.

Some of the most complex high-rise buildings in London are being created right now, and the fire safety decisions made at design stage will protect the people who live and work in them for decades. We're looking for an experienced fire engineer to join us as Associate Director to lead that work and help grow a fire engineering practice with real momentum.

You'll join a team of more than 35 fire engineers, CFD engineers, structural fire engineers, fire risk assessors, external wall consultants and façade designers. We believe in putting life safety at the forefront of design while helping design teams realise their ambitions. You'll also work alongside our Facades, Building Safety and Building Control specialists, which gives you a joined-up view of how a building comes together and the chance to influence it from every angle. Because every instruction has an appointed director, you'll have genuine ownership of your projects and your client relationships.

Send your CV and a covering letter to louise.harrisonclarke@chpk.co.uk by 10 November 2026.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading a varied portfolio, including high-rise residential schemes in London, from RIBA Stage 2 through to Stage 6
  • Collaborating closely with CHPK's Facades, Building Safety and Building Control teams
  • Being the voice of fire safety in the room, presenting designs to design teams, local authorities, the Building Safety Regulator and the Fire Service
  • Shaping the design itself by advising on changes that make buildings genuinely safer
  • Owning delivery: QA, project milestones and financial performance
  • Growing the practice by winning new work and building lasting client relationships

What you'll bring

  • A BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Fire, Civil, Structural, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • At least 6 years' UK experience in fire engineering consultancy
  • Fire strategy experience from RIBA Stage 2 to 6, including Fire Statements and FRAEWs
  • Membership or Associate Membership of the IFE
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the IFE

Just as importantly, you'll be someone others want to work with. You communicate clearly with everyone from junior engineers to regulators, stay calm and decisive under pressure, and bring regulatory precision and professional integrity to everything you do. You're analytical and methodical, and you get satisfaction from helping the next generation of fire engineers develop.

Why CHPK

  • Time to recharge: 25 days' annual leave, plus a Christmas shutdown and your birthday off
  • Discretionary bonus that rewards both company and individual performance
  • Competitive pension contributions
  • Private healthcare after probation
  • Investment in your growth: a Training & Development Allowance for courses, qualifications and conferences, professional subscriptions paid, and rewards for qualifications and long service
  • 4x salary Death in Service benefit
  • Travel expenses covered, including rail, flights and hotels
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme and an online discount platform
