Fire Engineer - Global HSE

Salary – £50,000–£65,000 depending on experience

Hours – Full Time/Permanent - 40 hours (8am - 5pm, Monday – Friday)

Role Overview

As part of our continued growth, Global HSE Group is looking to recruit an experienced Fire Engineer to join our expanding fire engineering and building safety team.

This position would suit a Fire Engineer who has developed strong technical experience and is looking for the opportunity to work on increasingly complex projects while progressing towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) and/or professional IFE registration.

You will work alongside experienced Chartered Fire Engineers and specialists from across Global's multidisciplinary teams, gaining exposure to complex buildings, Higher-Risk Buildings, façade and remediation projects, fire strategies and the evolving Building Safety Act regulatory environment.

Requirements

• BEng/MEng, MSc or equivalent qualification in Fire Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline
• Relevant professional fire engineering experience
• Good knowledge of UK Building Regulations, Approved Document B and relevant British Standards and guidance
• Experience preparing or contributing to fire strategies
• Understanding of means of escape, compartmentation, fire resistance, smoke control and firefighting provisions
• Experience reviewing building designs and technical information
• Understanding of the Building Safety Act and Higher-Risk Building regulatory environment
• Strong technical report-writing and communication skills
• Ability to work independently while recognising when senior technical input is required
• Commitment to professional development and maintaining technical competence

Key Responsibilities

• Provide professional fire engineering advice to clients, project teams and colleagues
• Develop and contribute to fire strategies for new and existing buildings
• Undertake technical fire engineering assessments and develop practical, proportionate recommendations
• Support Single Building Assessments and associated fire engineering work
• Support fire engineering assessments of Higher-Risk Buildings and complex existing buildings
• Review drawings, specifications, construction information and proposed fire safety measures
• Assess means of escape, compartmentation, structural fire protection, smoke control, firefighting provisions and other fire safety measures
• Support assessments involving façades and external wall systems
• Identify fire safety risks, technical issues and areas requiring further investigation
• Produce clear, accurate and technically robust fire strategies, assessments and reports
• Attend client, design team and project meetings
• Liaise with Building Control, Registered Building Inspectors, Fire and Rescue Authorities and other stakeholders as required
• Undertake site inspections and surveys
• Work collaboratively with Global's façade, FRA, Building Safety Act Principal Designer, passive fire and active systems teams
• Participate in technical peer reviews, quality assurance and knowledge-sharing activities
• Maintain and develop professional competence through structured CPD
• Support your progression towards professional registration and Chartered Engineer status
