About the Role

We are looking for a knowledgeable and proactive Fire Safety Manager to lead fire safety compliance and risk management across the Council’s corporate property portfolio. This is a key role for a technically skilled professional who can provide expert advice, carry out thorough assessments, and support the delivery of fire safety projects that protect people, property, and operations.

You will be responsible for ensuring that all buildings meet fire safety legislation and regulatory standards, while also helping to shape and implement effective fire safety strategies. The role involves both strategic oversight and hands-on site work, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a varied and impactful environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical fire safety advice and guidance across all aspects of fire safety compliance.
• Undertake site-based fire risk assessments, pre-occupancy inspections, and other fire safety audits and reports.
• Identify fire hazards and develop robust fire safety protocols, evacuation plans, and mitigation strategies.
• Monitor and report on compliance with fire safety legislation, ensuring all buildings meet statutory requirements.
• Produce clear, detailed reports and recommendations for senior management and stakeholders.
• Assist in the specification, tendering, and project management of fire safety-related works and improvement projects.
• Support the monitoring of contractors to ensure fire safety works are completed to the required standards and quality.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to promote a culture of fire safety awareness and continuous improvement.

About the Team

The role will be situated within the Technical Compliance Team and will report to the technical Compliance Manager. The small, dynamic team consists of the Technical Compliance Manager, Asbestos Specialist, Fire Safety Manager, Data Officer and Safety and Compliance Officer.

About You

We’re looking for a highly skilled and experienced fire safety professional who can lead with confidence, apply technical expertise, and work collaboratively across services to ensure the highest standards of fire safety.

The successful candidate will have:

• Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment.
• NEBOSH General Certificate and/or NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management.
• IFE Level 3 Certificate in Passive Fire Protection (or equivalent).
• Membership of a recognised fire safety organisation (e.g. IFE).

• Minimum of five years’ experience in a fire safety role, including fire risk assessments for large, complex, and high-risk premises.
• Proven track record of managing fire safety in public/commercial buildings and delivering projects to time, cost, and quality.
• Experience commissioning and monitoring contractors and consultants to ensure effective delivery of fire safety works.

• Strong understanding of fire safety legislation, building regulations, and British Standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
• Effective problem-solving, organisational, and workload management skills in a fast-paced environment.
