Transform fire safety culture in a high-profile and complex government department, while creating a lasting legacy of safety excellence at the Home Office and keep over 50,000 colleagues safe, while creating a legacy of safety excellence.

About us

The Home Office People Safety Team (PST) is a centre of excellence that’s part of the Corporate Delivery Directorate, which is accountable for people safety through policy, audit and training. The PST’s aspiration is to build a stronger organisation with a safety-first approach. We work strategically to drive business improvement in health, safety and fire safety management, transforming fire safety culture through innovation and digitalisation.

About the role

This role is an opportunity to take the lead on our new fire safety strategy whilst maintaining hands-on operational responsibility. You’ll help to build a best-in-class fire safety management system that’s responsible for keeping over 50,000 Home Office colleagues safe.

Working with data and digitalisation, you’ll drive innovation to enhance our fire safety systems and governance. As well as leading a team of 13 fire safety professionals to manage real-time critical incidents, you’ll also have the opportunity to deputise at senior boards and make critical, life-saving decisions.

The scale, complexity and significance of the Home Office portfolio make this a role that comes with a deep sense of purpose and a direct impact on high-risk environments with public-facing consequences.

About you

You’ll have MIFireE or MIFSM membership with relevant supporting fire safety management qualifications at Level 4 or equivalent.

Resilient and articulate under pressure, you will drive and maintain high levels of performance within your team. You’ll be able to work collaboratively while communicating with – and influencing – a wide variety of stakeholders.

Adept at optimising processes and driving continuous improvement, you’ll maintain focus on customer service excellence and legal compliance.

Application process

First, you’ll complete a personal statement. This allows you to demonstrate your skills and experience for the role and how you meet our essential criteria.

We sift applications based on these personal statements and CVs.

The next step is an online interview in which you’ll deliver a 10-minute presentation and respond to follow-up questions. Details of the presentation will be provided before your interview.

Location Preferences

You can select up to two locations in order of preference. Please ensure that these are locations you are prepared to travel to. If you are offered a role at one of your preferred location(s) and you decline, your application will be withdrawn.

Closing date: 17th November 2024.
