Senior Fire Engineer - Global HSE

Salary – £75,000–£90,000 depending on experience

Hours – Full Time/Permanent - 40 hours (8am - 5pm, Monday – Friday)

Role Overview

As part of our continued growth, Global HSE Group is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Fire Engineer to strengthen our expanding fire engineering and building safety capability.

You will work alongside Global's Principal and Chartered Fire Engineers and our wider multidisciplinary teams across fire engineering, façades, building safety, fire risk, passive and active fire protection.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Fire Engineer to take greater responsibility for complex projects, client relationships and technical delivery. Chartered Engineer status is not essential for this position. We particularly welcome applications from experienced engineers who are already working towards CEng and/or MIFireE and want an organisation that will actively support that progression.

Requirements

• BEng/MEng, MSc or equivalent qualification in Fire Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline
• Significant professional experience within fire engineering, ideally 5+ years' relevant post-graduate experience
• Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, Approved Document B, British Standards and recognised fire engineering guidance
• Experience developing and delivering fire strategies
• Good understanding of the Building Safety Act and Higher-Risk Building regulatory environment
• Experience applying engineering judgement to complex fire safety issues
• Strong technical report-writing and communication skills
• Experience dealing directly with clients and multidisciplinary project teams
• Ability to lead projects and manage technical deliverables
• Ability to support and mentor less experienced engineers
• CEng is desirable but not mandatory; MIFireE or equivalent professional membership is also desirable

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of fire strategies for new and existing buildings
• Undertake complex fire engineering assessments and develop proportionate, technically robust solutions
• Lead and contribute to Single Building Assessments and associated technical assessments
• Work on Higher-Risk Buildings and Building Safety Act projects
• Review building designs, drawings, specifications and construction information for compliance with relevant fire safety requirements
• Assess means of escape, compartmentation, structural fire protection, smoke control, firefighting provisions and other fire safety measures
• Support assessments of external wall systems and façade fire performance
• Identify technical risks, non-compliances and areas requiring further investigation
• Produce and technically review fire strategies, engineering assessments and reports
• Provide practical fire engineering advice to clients, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams
• Lead client and design team meetings on appropriate projects
• Liaise with Building Control, Registered Building Inspectors, Fire and Rescue Authorities and other regulatory stakeholders
• Undertake site inspections, surveys and technical investigations
• Support projects through Building Safety Act regulatory processes where required
• Manage your own project workload, programme and technical deliverables
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Fire Engineers and Graduate Fire Engineers
• Participate in peer review, quality assurance and technical knowledge-sharing activities
• Support the development of Global's technical standards and engineering procedures
• Contribute to bids, proposals and client relationships
