This year, the IFE marks Chartered Week for the first time, a campaign dedicated to celebrating, promoting, and advocating the value of chartered status. The week examines what it means in practice: a commitment to professionalism, continual development and leadership.
Throughout Chartered Week, the IFE will spotlight our Chartered Engineers (CEng) across the globe and demonstrate how this route of professional registration empowers professionals to lead, inspire confidence, and shape a safer future for all.
Fire engineers who are chartered are expected to demonstrate not only what they know about fire engineering, but also how they apply that knowledge ethically and consistently in the face of evolving fire risks. Chartered status is not only a milestone. It is an ongoing professional obligation – signalling credibility to employers, peers, regulators and the wider public.

Global recognition
Chartered Engineers offer the theoretical knowledge required to solve problems and develop techniques, alongside successful application of that knowledge across complex engineering systems. They have proven their accountability, leadership, safety focus and overall commitment to professional engineering values. Attaining CEng registration provides global recognition of expertise and demonstrates a high level of professional competence and commitment.
In the fire sector, Chartered Engineers include, but are not limited to, directors, chief fire officers, partners, associates, consultants, designers and senior fire engineers. The benefits of gaining this status will enhance your career prospects, giving you the opportunity to earn more, work internationally and even contribute to the sector by being able to get involved with more complex systems and projects. It is one of the most valuable investments a professional can make.
