Call for nominations: Trustee and Presidential Team roles now open

Nominations are now open to join the IFE Board of Trustee Directors and the Presidential Team —key leadership roles that help shape the future of fire engineering and strengthen public safety worldwide.

Three vacancies are available: two Trustee positions and the role of the International President Elect. These positions play a central role in guiding the institution’s strategy, standards, and global influence.

Board of Trustee Directors

The IFE Board of Trustee Directors provides strategic leadership and oversight for the institution, ensuring it continues to advance the science, practice and professionalism of fire engineering in the public interest.

As a Trustee Director, you contribute directly to decisions that shape the IFE’s strategic direction, governance framework, financial sustainability and professional priorities. Trustees collectively ensure the institution remains effective, credible and responsive to the evolving needs of the fire engineering profession worldwide.

Trustee vacancies

This year there are two vacancies on the Board of Trustee Directors:

  • One position open to all voting members, elected by the voting membership
  • One position open to all voting members, elected by the IFE International General Assembly representatives

Trustee responsibilities

Trustees have an overriding duty to advance the IFE’s charitable mission and to act in the best interests of the institution. Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting strategic direction and overseeing delivery
  • Ensuring strong governance and effective risk management
  • Safeguarding the IFE’s reputation, assets and charitable purpose
  • Acting with care, diligence and integrity
  • Managing conflicts of interest
  • Ensuring compliance with governing documents and legal requirements

International President Elect

The International President Elect plays a vital role in supporting the continuity, visibility and global leadership of the IFE. Working closely with the International President, the role helps amplify the institution’s voice and influence across international fire safety and engineering communities.

The International President Elect holds office for one year from the AGM in July 2026, before automatically transitioning into the role of International President for a further one-year term.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Representing the IFE internationally through official communications, events and engagements
  • Strengthening relationships with global partners, branches and stakeholders
  • Promoting professional standards, knowledge exchange and best practice
  • Supporting the strategic objectives and international profile of the institution

Eligibility criteria

Nominations for the International President Elect must be Corporate Graded Members, including: paid up Life Fellows, Fellows, Members and Associates.

Supporters of your application must be current serving trustees of the Board.
