The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) is proud to be participating in Volunteers’ Week 2026, taking place this week from 1–7 June, to celebrate the dedication and impact of its volunteers from across the globe.
Throughout the week, the IFE will spotlight the diverse groups of volunteers who support the institution’s work, recognising the vital role they play in advancing professional standards, supporting learning and development, and shaping the future of fire engineering.
From committees and working groups to branch representatives and examiners, the IFE’s 470+ volunteers are central to its mission. Their contributions ensure the organisation remains member-led, guiding its strategic direction, upholding standards and benefitting over 15,000 global IFE members and the wider fire safety community.
In the past year alone, the Membership Application Assessment Panel and IFE Registrants Group have reviewed over 1,000 applications, while examiners have marked more than 1,950 exam papers.
The 34 IFE worldwide branches continue their work to bring members together, creating opportunities to connect, learn, and share knowledge at a local level. Delivering 60+ events, branches have hosted technical talks, networking sessions and community engagement activities, supporting professional development and strengthening our global network.
Since its inception in 2025, the IFE Early Careers Networking Group have supported the next generation of fire professionals with their Elevate CPD webinar series which has seen over 6,500 bookings and more than 30 sessions delivered. This has created accessible opportunities for learning, development, and connection across the sector.
The IFE’s Special Interest Groups continue to drive innovation across areas such as emerging technologies, electric vehicles and heritage fire safety, contributing to best practice and informing key legislation.
To mark the week, the IFE will share volunteer stories and showcase professionals who have felt the positive impact of our volunteer's work.
