RE17: Fire Related Research and Developments

The 21st annual Fire Related Research and Developments (RE17) conference takes place this week on Thursday 9th November 2017 at West Midlands Fire Service HQ in Birmingham.

RE17 will bring together delegates from across a wide audience including the emergency services, the fire industry, research communities, universities, international organisations as well as those from other private and public sectors interested in the latest fire related research and best practice. We welcome delegates from a range of professions and backgrounds including technical, engineering, legal, social, psychological, economic, operational, national and international perspectives.

A comprehensive programme showcasing current research studies and innovative projects has been created and will also reflect back on initiatives that have helped influence today’s policies and practice as well as look ahead to the future of fire related research and development. Topics covered in this year’s event include:

  • Understanding and addressing preventable fire deaths
  • Disaster management: International speakers
  • Fighting fires in particular environments
  • Improving FRS’ operational and organisational learning
  • Addressing fire-related risk environments
  • Firefighter health, safety and wellbeing
  • Fire safety knowledge and fire investigations
  • Hazard based perception, training and assessment
  • Firefighters’ situation awareness and command skills in challenging environments
  • Working with Fire Service data for the benefit of FRS’
