About the SIG
This Special Interest Group (SIG) brings together professionals with expertise and interest in fire resistance. It aims to raise awareness of fire safety issues in this area and support those working within this complex and evolving field.
The SIG acts as a recognised source of technical insight and subject matter expertise within the Institution. It monitors emerging research, standards and guidance, helping to identify gaps where direction is still developing. Through collaboration and structured discussion, it promotes the exchange of ideas and encourages consistent, evidence-informed approaches to shared challenges.
Focus areas include:
- passive fire protection and structural performance
- structural fire engineering (SFE)
- whole-life and holistic design approaches
The group delivers technical outputs, events and workshops aligned to an annual work plan, ensuring priority issues are addressed and knowledge continues to develop across the profession.
